Addressing party workers during a Facebook Live session on Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee apologised to the people “on behalf of the traitors” and asserted that neither she nor her family had ever compromised for political survival.

Mamata Banerjee Defends Abhishek Banerjee Amid Internal Dissent
In one of her strongest public endorsements of Abhishek Banerjee since the recent rebellion within the party, Mamata Banerjee dismissed criticism directed at her nephew and said he had become a convenient target for attacks on the Trinamool Congress.
“Abhishek Banerjee has been turned into an excuse. His family members were summoned. Had he wanted, he could have got relief. But he did not run away from the battlefield. The way he has continued to fight, all his flaws have been forgiven,” she said.
The statement was widely seen as a clear message that the party leadership continues to stand firmly behind Abhishek Banerjee despite criticism from former leaders.
Mamata Apologises to the People ‘On Behalf of the Traitors’
During her address, Mamata Banerjee expressed regret over the actions of leaders who had left the Trinamool Congress and apologised to the people of West Bengal.
She said she was apologising “on behalf of the traitors,” suggesting that those who deserted the party had betrayed both the organisation and the mandate given by the people.
The TMC chief maintained that the party would overcome the present challenges and continue working for the people.
‘We Never Compromised for Political Survival’
Reiterating her family’s commitment to political principles, Mamata Banerjee said neither she nor her relatives had ever compromised to secure political or personal relief.
Referring to repeated summons issued to Abhishek Banerjee and members of his family, she said they chose to face the legal and political challenges instead of seeking an easier way out.
Her remarks appeared aimed at countering allegations made by several former party leaders who have questioned the functioning of the Trinamool Congress leadership.
TMC Faces Rebellion as Leadership Projects Unity
The Trinamool Congress has witnessed internal turbulence in recent months, with multiple leaders exiting the party and criticising the leadership. Several of them have accused Abhishek Banerjee of adopting an aggressive style of functioning, allegations consistently rejected by the party.
Political observers believe Mamata Banerjee’s latest remarks were intended to reassure party workers and reinforce unity within the organisation ahead of future political challenges.
The latest remarks come at a crucial time for the Trinamool Congress as the party seeks to counter criticism from former leaders and reinforce confidence among its grassroots workers. By publicly standing behind Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee has attempted to dispel speculation about divisions within the party leadership while reiterating that the organisation remains focused on its political agenda and future electoral challenges.
Focus on Rebuilding the Party
Concluding her address, Mamata Banerjee urged party workers to remain united and committed despite recent setbacks.
Her unequivocal support for Abhishek Banerjee signals that he continues to enjoy the confidence of the party’s top leadership, even as the Trinamool Congress works to rebuild its organisation following a series of defections.
With the Bengal political landscape witnessing renewed activity, the TMC leadership appears determined to project a united front and strengthen its grassroots organisation ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
