West Bengal’s former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on dissident leaders within her party, accusing them of betrayal and attempting to weaken the organisation from within. Addressing party workers amid the escalating internal crisis, Banerjee described the rebel leaders as “traitors” and asserted that she would continue her political struggle regardless of the challenges before her.

The Mamata Banerjee TMC Rebels controversy has intensified in recent days, with growing differences between the party leadership and the dissident faction over the control of the organisation. Banerjee maintained that the Trinamool Congress would remain united under its loyal leadership and challenged the rebels to leave the party if they no longer believed in its principles.

Mamata Banerjee Accuses Rebels of Betraying the Party

In an emotional address, Banerjee said those who had risen to influential positions under the Trinamool Congress had now betrayed the trust placed in them. She alleged that the rebellion was aimed at weakening the party for the benefit of rival political forces.

“If you want to stop me, you will have to kill me,” Banerjee declared, adding that she had spent her entire political career fighting on the streets for the people. She said no amount of political pressure or intimidation would force her to back down.

The former Chief Minister urged party workers to remain united and not be influenced by those attempting to divide the organisation. She reiterated that the Trinamool Congress’ identity, election symbol and legacy would remain with the faction that remained loyal to the party’s core leadership.

Internal TMC Crisis Deepens Amid Leadership Dispute

The latest remarks come as the Trinamool Congress faces one of its most significant internal challenges in recent years. The split within the party has triggered a political battle over organisational control, party offices, leadership positions and the official election symbol.

Senior TMC leaders have indicated that the party will continue to pursue both legal and organisational measures to safeguard its identity. The leadership has expressed confidence that it will retain control over the party’s official structure despite the ongoing rebellion.

The dissident faction, meanwhile, has continued to mobilise supporters and challenge the authority of the existing leadership. Political observers believe the outcome of the dispute could reshape the organisational landscape of the Trinamool Congress ahead of future electoral contests.

The Trinamool Congress has witnessed internal disagreements in the past, particularly ahead of major elections, with some senior leaders leaving the party to join rival political formations. However, the party has largely managed to retain its electoral strength under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, especially after securing a decisive victory in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Analysts believe the current confrontation carries greater political significance because it involves competing claims over the party’s organisational structure and long-term leadership. The developments are being closely watched as they could influence the opposition’s political dynamics in West Bengal and affect the TMC’s preparations for upcoming elections.

Banerjee accused the dissident leaders of forgetting the opportunities provided to them by the party and attempting to undermine the organisation that helped establish their political careers. She insisted that loyalty and discipline remain essential for the party’s future and urged workers to remain focused on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.

The Mamata Banerjee TMC Rebels dispute is expected to remain a key political issue in West Bengal in the coming months. With both factions continuing to assert their claims, the legal, political and organisational battle is likely to shape the future course of the Trinamool Congress and the state’s political landscape.
