New Delhi:
In a major political development, the Aam Aadmi Party has reportedly suffered a significant setback, with three of its Rajya Sabha MPs — Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal — announcing their decision to quit the party.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Raghav Chadha said that he, along with several other MPs from the Upper House, will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

‘2/3rd MPs Will Merge with BJP’ Claim

Chadha further claimed that more than two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have decided to merge with the BJP, which could have significant implications under the anti-defection law.

“We have decided that the two-third members belonging to AAP in the Rajya Sabha will merge with BJP,” Chadha said.

He added that necessary documents have already been signed and submitted to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, indicating that the formal process is underway.

⚖️ Serious Allegations Against AAP

Launching a sharp attack on his former party, Chadha alleged that the AAP has deviated from its founding principles.

He said the party, which was created to fight corruption, is now “trapped in the hands of corrupt and compromised individuals.”

He also stated that the group of MPs will now work under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of the nation.

🧾 What Happens Next?

  • The merger claim will be examined by the Rajya Sabha Chairman
  • If 2/3rd MPs officially merge, they may avoid disqualification under the anti-defection law
  • Formal recognition will depend on verification by parliamentary authorities

⚠️ Political Impact

If confirmed, this could:

  • Reduce AAP’s strength in Rajya Sabha significantly
  • Strengthen BJP numerically in the Upper House
  • Trigger a major political confrontation ahead of upcoming elections

📊 Conclusion:

The announcement marks one of the biggest internal cracks within AAP in recent times. However, the final status will depend on official confirmation and acceptance of the merger by the Rajya Sabha authorities.
