The NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday focused on shaping India’s long-term development strategy as Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged states and the Centre to work together to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Addressing Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and senior policymakers, the Prime Minister said that despite global uncertainty and economic challenges, India continues to move forward with confidence and determination.

Chairing the 11th Governing Council Meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister Modi stressed that cooperation among states is essential for sustaining economic growth and ensuring inclusive development. He highlighted that NITI Aayog can serve as a strong platform for collaboration where states can exchange ideas, share best practices, and work collectively toward national development goals.

Focus on Youth, Skills and Employment

A major theme of the NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting was the need to create opportunities for India’s growing youth population. The Prime Minister said that quality education, industry-oriented skilling, and employment generation must remain at the centre of policy planning.

He noted that India’s demographic advantage can become its greatest strength if young people are equipped with the right skills and opportunities. According to the Prime Minister, empowered youth will play a decisive role in transforming India into a developed nation over the next two decades.

The discussions also examined ways to promote entrepreneurship and support innovation-driven growth. Policymakers deliberated on creating an ecosystem that encourages startups, strengthens local enterprises, and expands employment opportunities across urban and rural regions.

MSMEs and Trade Agreements Offer New Opportunities

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the growing importance of international trade agreements in expanding India’s economic footprint. He said that several Free Trade Agreements signed by India are opening new opportunities for exports and investment.

The Prime Minister stressed that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) stand to gain significantly from these agreements. By adopting global standards and improving competitiveness, Indian businesses can access larger international markets and strengthen their contribution to economic growth.

Experts attending the meeting also discussed the role of digital public infrastructure and governance reforms in enhancing productivity and ensuring that development benefits reach every section of society.

Women-Led Development at the Core of Growth

Another key focus area of the NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting was women-led development. Prime Minister Modi described women’s participation as a cornerstone of the Viksit Bharat vision.

He pointed out that women are making significant contributions across sectors, including agriculture, entrepreneurship, science, innovation, and technology. The Prime Minister urged states to prioritise women’s education, safety, skilling, and economic empowerment.

According to policymakers, increasing female workforce participation and supporting women entrepreneurs will be critical for sustaining long-term economic growth and social progress.

Inclusive Human Development Framework

The theme of this year’s meeting, “Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat @2047,” guided extensive discussions on improving quality of life for all citizens. The framework is built around four major pillars: foundational human capital and future-ready skills, productive employment and entrepreneurship, health and nutrition, and equity with dignity for all.

Participants discussed strategies to ensure that development reaches every region and community, regardless of socio-economic background. The emphasis remained on measurable outcomes, accountability, and stronger coordination between the Centre and states.

The NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to collaborative governance and inclusive growth. As India works toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, policymakers agreed that cooperation, innovation, and human development will remain central to achieving the country’s long-term aspirations.
