PM Modi has embarked on a significant six-day visit to France and Slovakia for the G7 summit, aimed at deepening India’s engagement with Europe, strengthening strategic partnerships, and expanding cooperation in innovation, trade, technology, and investment. The visit comes at a time when India is enhancing its global outreach and reinforcing its position as a key partner for European nations.

Before departing, Prime Minister Modi described France as a country that holds a special place in India’s strategic vision. He emphasized that the visit would focus on boosting economic cooperation, fostering innovation, and strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. The Prime Minister noted that the tour reflects India’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with Europe and enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors.

Innovation and Startup Collaboration Take Centre Stage

One of the major highlights of the visit will be the inauguration of the Bharat Innovates initiative alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The event is being held during the India-France Year of Innovation and is expected to provide a strong platform for Indian startups, entrepreneurs, researchers, and higher education institutions to connect with global investors and innovation ecosystems.

The initiative is designed to showcase India’s growing startup culture and technological capabilities. Over the past decade, India has emerged as one of the world’s leading startup hubs, with thousands of new ventures operating across sectors such as artificial intelligence, fintech, healthcare, clean energy, and digital services. Officials believe that deeper cooperation with France can help Indian innovators gain greater access to global markets and investment opportunities.

Following engagements in France, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Slovakia for a historic two-day visit. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and create new opportunities for cooperation in defence, trade, manufacturing, technology, and research.

PM Modi Slovakia Visit to Open New Areas of Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold meetings with Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding economic cooperation and identifying new areas for strategic collaboration.

India and Slovakia have witnessed steady growth in bilateral trade in recent years, with commerce between the two countries crossing 1.8 billion US dollars. Officials from both sides have expressed optimism that ongoing negotiations for an India-European Union Free Trade Agreement could unlock even greater opportunities for businesses and investors.

Defence cooperation is also expected to feature prominently during the talks. Both countries are exploring possibilities for joint production, technology sharing, and collaborative research projects. Such initiatives could help strengthen industrial partnerships while supporting India’s objective of expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities.

After concluding his Slovakia visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Evian, France, where he will participate in the G7 Summit on June 16 and 17. This marks the eighth consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited, reflecting the country’s growing influence in global affairs.

At the summit, discussions are expected to focus on economic growth, global security, technology, climate challenges, supply chains, and sustainable development. India’s participation is likely to highlight its role as a major voice of the Global South and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

The Prime Minister will conclude his visit in Paris by attending VivaTech 2026 alongside President Emmanuel Macron. The event is among Europe’s leading technology and innovation gatherings and is expected to showcase India’s growing role in the global digital economy.

Government officials and members of the Indian diaspora have expressed confidence that the PM Modi France Slovakia Visit will further strengthen India’s ties with Europe, attract new investments, and open fresh avenues of cooperation in trade, innovation, tourism, and strategic sectors.
