The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the detailed NEET UG Counselling 2026 schedule shortly on its official website, marking the beginning of the admission process for MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical courses under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ). The counselling will also cover admissions to AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, Deemed Universities and other participating institutions across the country.

The NEET UG Counselling 2026 process is likely to follow the same four-round format adopted in recent years, comprising Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-Up Round and the Stray Vacancy Round. Eligible candidates are advised to regularly monitor official notifications so they do not miss important deadlines related to registration, choice filling, seat allotment and reporting.

Registration Process for NEET UG Counselling 2026

The counselling process will begin with online registration on the MCC portal. Candidates who have qualified in NEET UG 2026 and fulfil the prescribed eligibility criteria must create an account, complete the application form and pay the required registration and security fees.

After successful registration, candidates will proceed to the choice-filling stage, where they can select their preferred medical and dental colleges along with their desired courses. Applicants will have the flexibility to modify their preferences multiple times before the deadline and are advised to carefully arrange colleges in order of preference.

Candidates must lock their choices before the closing date. If they fail to do so manually, the system will automatically lock the last saved preferences after the choice-filling window closes.

Seat Allotment and Admission Procedure

Following the completion of choice filling, the MCC will conduct a fully computerized seat allotment process. The allotment will be based on the candidate’s NEET rank, reservation category, eligibility, seat availability and the preferences submitted during counselling.

Candidates allotted a seat must download their seat allotment letter and report to the allotted institution within the specified timeline. During reporting, they will be required to complete document verification, pay the admission fee and fulfil all institutional formalities. Failure to report within the prescribed deadline may lead to cancellation of the allotted seat, depending on the applicable counselling rules.

As in previous years, candidates who are not allotted a seat in the initial rounds or wish to upgrade their allotted college may participate in subsequent counselling rounds, subject to eligibility and MCC guidelines.

The MCC conducts counselling only for the 15% All India Quota seats and institutions under its jurisdiction. Admissions to the remaining 85% State Quota seats are managed separately by the respective state counselling authorities. Candidates seeking admission under the state quota must register independently on the official counselling portals of their respective states and follow the schedules issued by those authorities.

Documents Candidates Should Keep Ready

Candidates are advised to keep all required documents ready well before the counselling process begins. These include the NEET UG 2026 scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates, identity proof, passport-size photographs, category or EWS certificates (where applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable) and other documents specified by the counselling authorities.

Medical education in India has witnessed a significant increase in undergraduate seats over the past decade with the establishment of new medical colleges and expansion of existing institutions. The annual counselling process conducted by the MCC plays a crucial role in ensuring transparent, merit-based admissions to premier government and private medical colleges across the country.

Candidates are encouraged to verify every update only through the official MCC portal and avoid relying on unverified social media posts or unofficial websites. Since counselling schedules, reporting dates and admission rules may change, timely monitoring of official announcements will help candidates complete every stage of the NEET UG Counselling 2026 process smoothly.

Expected Counselling Rounds

Counselling RoundPurpose
Round 1Initial seat allotment based on NEET rank and choices filled by candidates.
Round 2Fresh allotment and upgradation for eligible candidates.
Mop-Up RoundFilling vacant seats remaining after the first two rounds.
Stray Vacancy RoundAllocation of seats that remain vacant after the Mop-Up Round.

The detailed NEET UG Counselling 2026 schedule, including registration dates, choice filling, seat allotment results and reporting deadlines, is expected to be released by the MCC in the coming days. Aspirants should keep all documents ready and remain vigilant for official notifications to ensure a smooth admission process.
