Gurugram: A chillingly similar case to the high-profile Pune Lohagad Fort murder has surfaced from Haryana’s Gurugram, where a 25-year-old man allegedly shot dead his wife just three months after their wedding with the help of his girlfriend. According to police, the murder was planned so the couple could continue their three-year relationship without opposition.
The Manesar wife murder case came to light on May 22 after the victim’s mother approached Manesar Police Station and reported that her 22-year-old daughter had gone missing a day earlier. The woman had married the accused, Ankit, a resident of Manesar, in February this year.
During the investigation, police recovered the woman’s body from a room in Manesar on the same day. The Manesar wife murder case quickly gained attention after investigators alleged that the crime had been carefully planned over several weeks.
Police later arrested Ankit and his alleged girlfriend Rajni Devi, 38, a resident of Haryana’s Jhajjar district.
Manesar Wife Murder Case: Police Allege Murder Was Planned in Advance
According to investigators, the accused planned the murder inside Rajni Devi’s rented accommodation in Manesar.
Police claim that on the day of the incident, Ankit allegedly brought his wife to the rented room, where he and Rajni allegedly shot her dead.
Investigators further alleged that the firearm used in the murder had been purchased from Uttar Pradesh nearly two months before the crime. Police believe the weapon was procured specifically to execute the alleged conspiracy, a claim they are seeking to support through forensic evidence and further investigation.
Ankit operates a tobacco shop in Manesar, while Rajni worked at a beauty parlour in the same locality. According to police, the two had allegedly been in a relationship for nearly three years before Ankit married the victim earlier this year.
Officials are also examining digital evidence, including mobile phone records and communication between the accused, to establish the planning and sequence of events leading up to the alleged murder.
How the Investigation Began
The case was registered after the victim’s mother informed police that her daughter had disappeared on May 21.
According to the complaint, the family searched for her and contacted her in-laws but allegedly did not receive satisfactory answers regarding her whereabouts. Suspecting foul play, the mother approached police, leading to the registration of an FIR.
During the investigation, officers recovered the victim’s body from the rented room in Manesar. Police said the recovery, along with evidence collected from the crime scene, led investigators to identify Ankit and Rajni as the primary suspects.
Accused Allegedly Fled to Nepal Before Arrest

According to police, Ankit and Rajni fled Manesar shortly after the alleged murder.
Investigators claim they first travelled to Haridwar before crossing into Nepal in an attempt to evade arrest.
After remaining away for several weeks, the two allegedly returned to India on June 30, when they were arrested by the Crime Branch team in Manesar.
Both accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to five days of police custody for further interrogation.
Police said efforts are continuing to recover the murder weapon, verify financial and digital evidence, and gather additional material connected with the investigation.
Case Draws Attention After Pune Murder Investigation
The incident has attracted nationwide attention because it surfaced shortly after the widely discussed Lohagad Fort murder case in Maharashtra, where businessman Ketan Agarwal was allegedly murdered in a conspiracy involving his fiancée and her alleged partner.
While investigators have not linked the two cases, both involve allegations of carefully planned murders allegedly motivated by romantic relationships. The similarities have drawn public attention to cases in which investigators suspect intimate relationships played a role in the planning of serious crimes.
Police have emphasised that the Manesar wife murder case remains under active investigation. Authorities said questioning of both accused is continuing and further evidence may emerge during custodial interrogation before the final chargesheet is filed.
