Lonavala: The Lohagad Fort Murder Case entered a crucial phase after Lonavala Police temporarily closed the historic fort to visitors while carrying out an extensive crime scene reconstruction in connection with the alleged murder of 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal. Authorities said restricting public access was necessary to allow investigators and forensic experts to examine the site without interference and accurately recreate the events leading to the alleged murder.
According to police, the reconstruction exercise was conducted at the fort where Ketan Agarwal allegedly lost his life on June 18 after being pushed into a deep gorge. The operation involved accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, who were separately taken to various locations within the fort to help investigators verify their statements and establish the exact sequence of events.
Lohagad Fort Murder Case: Police Recreate Sequence of Events
Investigators retraced the movements of the accused from the time they entered Lohagad Fort until the alleged murder took place.
Police examined the route allegedly followed by the accused, the location where Ketan Agarwal’s vehicle was parked, the point where Chetan Chaudhary is believed to have arrived on his motorcycle, and the exact spot from where Agarwal was allegedly pushed into the gorge.
Officials also used a life-sized dummy matching the victim’s height and weight to recreate the incident. The exercise was intended to determine whether the statements made by the accused matched the physical layout of the scene and the evidence collected during the investigation.
According to investigators, crime scene reconstruction plays an important role in verifying witness statements, testing the credibility of the accused’s version of events and identifying any inconsistencies that may assist the prosecution. Officials said the exercise was carried out under tight security throughout the day.
Forensic Teams Verify Physical and Digital Evidence
Police said the reconstruction exercise will be compared with CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, forensic findings and digital evidence collected during the investigation.
Officials are also analysing mobile phone records, internet search history, location data and electronic communications to establish whether the alleged murder was planned in advance.
Investigators have already recovered a motorcycle allegedly used by Chetan Chaudhary to reach Lohagad Fort on the day of the incident. Clothing believed to have been worn by him, including a hoodie and headphones, has also been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Police believe the scientific evidence gathered during the investigation will help establish the movements and roles of each accused before, during and after the alleged crime.
Police Suspect Murder Was Planned
According to investigators, evidence collected so far suggests that the murder may have been premeditated.
Police are examining material indicating that multiple unsuccessful attempts were allegedly made before the fatal incident on June 18. Investigators suspect the accused selected Lohagad Fort because of its steep cliffs and relatively isolated surroundings, intending to make the death appear accidental.
Authorities are continuing to verify these claims through forensic analysis, witness testimonies and digital evidence before reaching final conclusions.
Probe Continues as Chargesheet Preparation Begins
The case has attracted widespread public attention across Maharashtra, prompting the state government to order a fast-track trial.
Senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam has been appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor to represent the prosecution in the case.
Meanwhile, police continue collecting scientific, forensic and electronic evidence before filing the final chargesheet. Investigators said they are working to establish every aspect of the alleged conspiracy and determine whether additional evidence supports the prosecution’s case.
Officials have indicated that the investigation remains active and further findings could emerge as forensic reports and digital analysis are completed in the coming days.
