Ghaziabad ATM Van Heist Suspects Killed in Encounter
Ghaziabad ATM van heist investigation took a major turn on Tuesday after police killed two prime suspects during an encounter near Wave City in Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, gang leader Zubair and his associate Sameer allegedly opened fire at police officers when intercepted during a special operation based on a tip-off.
Police Say Suspects Opened Fire First
Ghaziabad Police said the accused were carrying rewards of ₹1 lakh each and were among the key conspirators in the ATM cash van robbery case.
Police officials claimed the suspects fired first, forcing officers to retaliate. Both accused sustained bullet injuries and were later declared dead at a hospital.
Three police personnel were also injured during the exchange of fire and are currently undergoing treatment. Officials said their condition is stable.
Robbery Took Place on May 6
The Ghaziabad ATM van heist is linked to the robbery that took place on May 6 in the Crossing Republik area along NH-9.
Investigators said armed men hijacked a cash van carrying ATM funds and allegedly looted around ₹27 lakh after holding the driver hostage.
The gang later abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene, triggering a large-scale police investigation.
Earlier Arrests and Recoveries
Before the latest encounter, police had already arrested two other accused connected to the robbery case.
Authorities recovered cash, weapons, and other materials allegedly linked to the gang during multiple raids conducted after the robbery.
Officials also confirmed that weapons and cash were recovered following Tuesday’s encounter operation.
Search Continues for Remaining Accused
Police teams are continuing efforts to trace the remaining fugitives believed to be associated with the robbery network.
Investigators are also examining how the gang planned the robbery and whether additional individuals provided logistical support or shelter after the incident.
The Ghaziabad ATM van heist case has drawn major attention in Uttar Pradesh due to the scale of the robbery and the subsequent police crackdown.
Police Team Rewarded
Following the operation, senior police officials announced a ₹50,000 reward for the police team involved in the encounter.
Authorities stated that the investigation remains active and more arrests may follow in the coming days.
