Mandya: What began as a minor overtaking dispute allegedly turned into a terrifying chase after a seven-member gang reportedly followed a Bengaluru family for several kilometres before intercepting their vehicle and assaulting them near Maddur. Police have arrested five accused in the Bengaluru-Mysuru road rage attack, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining two suspects.

According to police, the incident took place on the night of July 5, when Bengaluru resident Sagar and his family were travelling towards the city. Investigators said the confrontation began on the service road near Srirangapatna following an argument over overtaking.

Police alleged that the accused pursued the family’s vehicle in two separate cars from Srirangapatna to Maddur before blocking their path in the middle of the highway and launching an assault.

How the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road Rage Attack Unfolded

Police said Sagar was allegedly assaulted first before the attackers turned on other members of his family, including his mother, his wife and his eight-year-old child.

The alleged assault on an entire family, including a minor, has drawn widespread attention and renewed concerns over violent road rage incidents on Karnataka’s highways.

After receiving information, personnel from Maddur Town Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the victims. Sagar, who sustained injuries during the attack, was admitted to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) for treatment. He has since been discharged and returned to Bengaluru with his family.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage, eyewitness statements and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the role played by each accused.

Five Accused Arrested, Search On for Two More

Police initially arrested three accused identified as Santosh, Arun Kumar and Abhishek.

On Wednesday morning, two more accused, Venkate Gowda and Pratap, were arrested from Bengaluru, taking the total number of arrests in the Bengaluru-Mysuru road rage attack case to five.

Police said two other suspects allegedly involved in the assault remain absconding, and search operations are continuing to locate and arrest them.

Officials are also investigating whether the accused maintained communication during the pursuit and are analysing digital evidence alongside CCTV footage and witness accounts as part of the ongoing probe.

Investigation Continues

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the role of each accused and collect additional evidence before filing the chargesheet.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of road rage escalating into serious violence and prompted authorities to advise motorists to avoid confrontations on the road and immediately seek police assistance if they feel threatened.
