A major controversy has erupted in Telangana after Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following allegations made by a 17-year-old minor girl.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, the girl reportedly came in contact with Bhagirath through mutual friends. The complaint alleged that he frequently invited her to parties and accompanied her to temples before later calling her to a farmhouse located in Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The minor girl alleged that she was administered drugs at the farmhouse and was sexually assaulted. After returning home, she reportedly went into severe emotional distress and allegedly attempted suicide twice. Family members became suspicious after noticing changes in her behaviour and later questioned her about the incident.
After learning about the allegations, the victim’s parents, who reside in Hyderabad’s Suchitra area, approached the Pet Basheerbagh Police Station and lodged a complaint against Bhagirath. Sources claimed that there was an initial delay in registering the FIR, allegedly because of the accused’s political background. However, following protests and tension outside the police station, authorities reportedly registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections.
The case has now triggered intense political and public debate across Telangana, especially after copies of the FIR began circulating widely on social media platforms. The allegations have drawn significant attention due to Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s prominent position in national politics.
Meanwhile, Bandi Bhagirath has filed a counter-complaint at Karimnagar 2 Town Police Station. In his complaint, he alleged that he and his family were being blackmailed for ₹5 crore in connection with the case. He further claimed that despite allegedly paying ₹50,000, the threats and harassment did not stop.
Police officials have not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding either complaint. Authorities are currently examining evidence, statements, and digital records as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has once again brought focus on the handling of sensitive cases involving minors and influential individuals in Telangana. Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
