CBI Flags Alleged Campaign Against Judge

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the Delhi High Court that a “premeditated and vitriolic” online campaign is being run against Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.

The agency alleged that the campaign is being carried out at the behest of Arvind Kejriwal and others to exert pressure on the judge.

Claims of Misinformation Circulation

In its written submissions, the CBI said that selective and misleading information is being circulated on social media.

The agency pointed out that “wild insinuations” related to alleged government panel work involving the judge’s children are being spread without basis.

Kejriwal Had Alleged Conflict of Interest

The development comes after Kejriwal claimed that Justice Sharma had a “direct conflict of interest” in a case being heard.

The CBI, however, strongly rejected these claims and termed the campaign as an attempt to influence judicial proceedings.

Warning Against Dangerous Precedent

The agency cautioned that if a judge recuses due to such “orchestrated social media campaigns,” it would set a dangerous precedent for the judiciary.

It described such actions as “unholy, unhealthy and anarchist practices” that must be curbed in the larger interest of maintaining judicial independence.

Matter Under Court Consideration

The issue is currently under consideration before the Delhi High Court, and further proceedings are awaited.

The case has sparked debate over the use of social media in influencing judicial processes and the need to safeguard the integrity of the judiciary.
