South Korean President’s Maiden India Visit

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to visit India from April 19 to 21, marking his maiden trip since assuming office in June 2025.

He will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation including ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

This will also be the first visit by a South Korean President to India in over eight years.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The visit is expected to further strengthen the special strategic partnership between India and South Korea.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Lee had previously met during the G7 and G20 summits last year, setting the stage for deeper bilateral engagement.

Key Focus Areas

During bilateral talks, both sides are expected to discuss cooperation in key sectors, including:

  • Trade and investments
  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Shipbuilding and critical technologies
  • Cultural and people-to-people ties

The semiconductor sector, in particular, is likely to be a major focus given global supply chain shifts.

High-Level Engagements Planned

President Lee’s visit will include several high-level engagements:

  • Official talks and lunch with PM Narendra Modi
  • State banquet hosted by Droupadi Murmu
  • Meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar
  • Business forum with top corporate leaders

Boost to Economic Ties

The visit is expected to open new avenues for investment and collaboration, especially in emerging technologies and manufacturing sectors.

It also aligns with South Korea’s broader Global South diplomacy strategy.
