Chennai: In a dramatic and potentially historic political shift, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is emerging as the clear frontrunner in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, as counting continues across the state on May 4.

According to early trends and ongoing updates, TVK is leading in over 100 seats, with estimates ranging between 105 and 110 constituencies. This places the party within striking distance of the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

TVK Breaks Decades-Old Political Dominance

The surge of TVK marks a significant disruption in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, long dominated by the DMK and AIADMK. If current trends hold, Vijay’s party is set to become the single largest party and could potentially form the next government.

The DMK-led alliance, headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin, is currently trailing and leading in approximately 60 to 75 seats. Meanwhile, the AIADMK alliance, which includes the BJP, is also lagging behind in most constituencies.

Vijay Leading Comfortably in Key Seats

Vijay himself is performing strongly in both constituencies he contested Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East where he is leading with comfortable margins. His party has already secured at least one confirmed victory in Thanjavur, further boosting confidence among supporters.

Set for Chief Ministerial Role?

With TVK maintaining a commanding lead, political analysts and party insiders are increasingly confident that Vijay could become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu if the trend continues. Preparations for victory celebrations have reportedly begun within party ranks.

Big Shock for DMK

In a surprising development, incumbent Chief Minister MK Stalin is trailing in his Kolathur constituency, adding to the growing pressure on the ruling party.

Counting Still Underway

While the trends strongly favor TVK, officials note that counting is still ongoing, and final results may see some fluctuations. However, the scale of TVK’s lead suggests a major electoral upset is underway.

If confirmed, this election could mark one of the most significant political transitions in Tamil Nadu’s history and a blockbuster debut for Vijay in electoral politics.
