Congress Takes Strict Action
The Indian National Congress has suspended five of its MLAs from Haryana over alleged cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha elections.
The decision was taken with immediate effect, citing violation of party discipline and anti-party activities.
Leadership Approves Suspension
State Congress chief Rao Narender Singh confirmed that the action followed recommendations from the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee and was approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
MLAs Accused of Defying Party Line
The suspended legislators include:
- Shalli Chaudhary (Naraingarh)
- Renu Bala (Sadhaura)
- Mohammad Illyas (Punhana)
- Mohammad Israil (Hathin)
- Jarnail Singh (Ratia)
They were accused of defying the party’s official directive during voting.
Show-Cause Notices Issued Earlier
The party had earlier issued show-cause notices to the MLAs for allegedly not voting in favour of the official Congress candidate.
The Disciplinary Action Committee reviewed their responses before recommending suspension.
Impact on Rajya Sabha Election
Polling for two Rajya Sabha seats in Haryana took place on March 16.
While BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia secured one seat comfortably, the Congress candidate Karamvir Singh Boudh won the second seat in a closely fought contest against Independent candidate Satish Nandal.
The alleged cross-voting and invalid votes reportedly affected the Congress party’s position.
MLAs Deny Allegations
Some of the accused MLAs have denied the charges, claiming that they voted in favour of the party candidate and that their names were unnecessarily dragged into the controversy.
Political Fallout Continues
The development has intensified political tensions in Haryana, with the Congress taking a firm stance on internal discipline.
Further developments are expected as the issue continues to unfold.
