Police have registered an FIR following a complaint filed by the woman at the women’s police station in Chitradurga.
The accused has been identified as Varun Kumar, a Reserve Sub-Inspector attached to the District Armed Reserve (DAR) department. According to the complaint, the woman, identified as Poornima from Davanagere, came into contact with Varun Kumar through Instagram nearly a year ago. At the time, she was reportedly employed at a private company in Bengaluru, while the accused officer had arrived in the city for police training.
Investigators stated that the two later entered into a relationship. However, the complainant alleged that the accused repeatedly assured her of marriage and continued the relationship based on those assurances. Authorities are now examining the timeline of events and communication records connected to the allegations.
