Iron Rod Breaks Window on Taj Express

Today, May 1, shortly after the Taj Express departed New Delhi at 6:45 a.m. for Virangana Laxmibai Jhansi, a video surfaced showing an iron rod breaking a coach window, leaving glass shards on seats and a water bottle toppled amid the debris.

Witnesses reported that one to two passengers were injured, though Indian Railways has not yet confirmed the number of casualties.

Rising Cases of Stone-Pelting and Object-Throwing

This incident highlights a continuing problem for Indian Railways. Between 2023 and 2025, authorities recorded:

  • 7,971 cases of stone-pelting and objects thrown at trains
  • ₹5.79 crore in damages to railway property
  • Over 4,500 arrests

Authorities have increasingly deployed AI-enabled cameras and anti-pelting squads to deter attacks, while public calls for stronger protections for passengers continue.

Railways Response and Safety Measures

Indian Railways has urged passengers to report suspicious activity immediately and is reviewing the deployment of additional security personnel along vulnerable routes. Officials continue to investigate the current Taj Express incident and assess damages to the affected coach.
