ED Arrests Ex-Kolkata Police Officer
ED arrests ex-Kolkata police officer case has intensified political and legal tensions in West Bengal after the Enforcement Directorate took a former Kolkata Police special branch officer into custody during ongoing scam investigations.
Officials said the arrest is linked to allegations of land grabbing and extortion associated with the alleged ‘Sona Pappu’ syndicate operating in parts of the state.
Probe Linked to Multiple Scam Cases
According to investigators, the arrest comes amid wider investigations into several alleged financial and recruitment irregularities in West Bengal.
The development follows the earlier custody of former TMC minister Sujit Bose in connection with the municipal recruitment scam involving alleged cash-for-jobs practices across 16 civic bodies.
The Enforcement Directorate is examining whether multiple individuals connected to political and administrative networks benefited from the alleged irregularities.
ED Teams Visit TMC MLA’s Residence
As part of the ongoing probe, ED officials also reportedly visited the residence of TMC MLA Dilip Mondal.
Investigators are looking into possible links between political figures and the recruitment-related financial transactions under scrutiny.
The ED arrests ex-Kolkata police officer development has further expanded the scope of the ongoing investigation involving civic recruitment and financial misconduct allegations.
Luxury Flat Allegedly Found During Raid
In a separate operation, police reportedly discovered a hidden luxury flat during a raid conducted at the residence of TMC leader Shamim Ahmed.
Authorities are examining documents and materials recovered during the raid as part of broader investigations into alleged illegal assets and financial dealings.
Political Reactions Intensify
The investigations come shortly after Suvendu Adhikari assumed office following the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
While BJP leaders have described the investigations as necessary anti-corruption action, the All India Trinamool Congress has accused central agencies of carrying out politically motivated operations against opposition leaders.
Investigations Continue
Officials said multiple agencies are continuing to gather evidence related to alleged recruitment irregularities, extortion networks, and financial misconduct.
Legal experts believe the ED arrests ex-Kolkata police officer case could lead to further arrests and raids as investigators trace money trails and administrative links connected to the alleged scams.
