Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: For 15 days, police officers in Surat worked undercover, serving omelettes, bhurji, and other items while closely monitoring the movements of two suspected interstate thieves. The operation was part of an investigation into a March 19 theft at Indraneel Apartments in Vedantnagar, where cash and valuables worth Rs 3.23 lakh were stolen.
Using footage from around 150 CCTV cameras, authorities were able to identify one suspect and match him with existing criminal records, leading investigators to Surat, where the suspects were believed to be residing in Palsana taluka.
Acting on directions from senior officials, constables Yogesh Navsare and Pradeep Dandwate posed as food stall vendors near the suspects’ location. After maintaining surveillance for nearly two weeks and confirming their identities, the police carried out a raid and arrested Gurudas Suresh Koli (28) and Amol Gokul Jadhav (33) on April 27.
Police reports revealed that the accused used stolen vehicles with multiple fake licence plates and avoided personal mobile phones, relying on apps to plan toll-free routes and bypass checkpoints. Their method involved identifying unoccupied houses, breaking into lockers, and leaving swiftly.
The two suspects have multiple cases registered against them, including eight in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and approximately 28 in Nashik. They have been produced before a court and remanded to police custody until May 5, with further interrogation underway to determine involvement in other thefts.
