Falta Re-Poll TMC Aide Arrested
Falta re-poll TMC aide arrested after West Bengal Police detained Saidul Khan, vice-president of the Falta Panchayat Samiti and a close associate of Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan. Police officials said Khan was arrested in connection with pending complaints involving alleged attempted murder, violence, and intimidation linked to recent election-related unrest in the constituency.
Re-Poll Ordered After Election Controversy
The arrest comes ahead of the full re-poll scheduled for May 21 in Falta after the April 29 election was canceled over allegations of EVM tampering, booth capture attempts, voter intimidation, and procedural irregularities. Election authorities had earlier announced fresh polling following multiple complaints and reports of disturbances during voting. The Falta re-poll TMC aide arrested development has intensified political tensions in the constituency.
Political Reactions Intensify
Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the police action, claiming it reflects the new government’s commitment to restoring law and order under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Meanwhile, leaders from the All India Trinamool Congress alleged the arrest was politically motivated and carried out under pressure from the ruling administration. TMC representatives described the case as fabricated and accused the government of targeting opposition workers ahead of the re-poll.
Heavy Security Deployed
Authorities have deployed heavy central security forces across the Falta constituency to prevent violence and ensure smooth voting during the May 21 re-poll.
Officials stated that additional surveillance measures and stricter booth monitoring would remain in place throughout polling day.
The results of the re-poll are expected to be declared on May 24.
