Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing to visit India tomorrow on an official visit that will continue through June 3, 2026. The announcement was made by External Affairs Ministry (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a media briefing in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon, where he also addressed a wide range of pressing foreign policy and diplomatic issues.
India-Myanmar Summit: PM Modi to Hold Bilateral Talks
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral talks with Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing during the visit. The discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of India-Myanmar relations, with a focus on deepening bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
“India looks forward to welcoming the President of Myanmar. All issues that form part of the gamut of relations between Myanmar and India will come up for discussions,” Jaiswal stated.
The visit is seen as a significant diplomatic engagement, given the strategic importance of Myanmar as a neighbouring country sharing land and maritime borders with India and its pivotal role in India’s Act East Policy.
India-China Border Affairs: Constructive Talks Held
On the recently concluded meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs, spokesperson Jaiswal described the discussions as “constructive and forward looking.”
He said the two sides engaged on key issues including delimitation, border management, mechanism building, and border cooperation. The Indian side also stressed the importance of convening an early meeting of the next Expert Level Mechanism on Trans Border Rivers, reflecting New Delhi’s commitment to resolving pending bilateral concerns with Beijing through structured dialogue.
India Sends Medical Aid to Africa Amid Public Health Emergency
In response to a query, Jaiswal confirmed that India has dispatched the first tranche of medical supplies to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). The supplies were formally handed over by the Indian High Commissioner in Uganda to the Africa CDC office in the country.
“New Delhi looks forward to helping in whatever manner possible in dealing with the public health emergency that has happened on the continent,” Jaiswal said, reaffirming India’s commitment to global health solidarity and its role as a first responder in humanitarian situations.
Bangladesh Illegal Migrants: India Awaits Nationality Verification Response
Addressing queries regarding illegal Bangladeshi nationals residing in India, the MEA spokesperson said the government is handling the matter strictly in accordance with the law.
Jaiswal revealed that India has referred more than 2,680 cases to the Bangladeshi side for nationality verification. He noted that once the verification process is completed, India will proceed with the deportation of confirmed Bangladeshi nationals. However, he expressed concern that in many cases, the verification has been pending for over five years.
“It is India’s expectation that it will receive an early response from Bangladesh on this particular issue,” Jaiswal said, urging Dhaka to expedite the process.
Indian Vessels in Persian Gulf: Update on Strait of Hormuz
The MEA spokesperson provided an update on Indian flagged vessels currently navigating tensions in the Persian Gulf region. Jaiswal stated that eleven Indian flagged vessels remain in the Persian Gulf area, while fourteen ships have successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached India safely.
The development comes amid ongoing regional tensions that have affected maritime movement in one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors. The Indian government continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of its vessels and crew members.
India-US Trade Talks: US Team to Visit India Next Week
Updating the media on the progress of trade negotiations between India and the United States, Jaiswal said that an Indian trade delegation had visited the United States in April for preliminary discussions. He confirmed that a team from the US is now expected to arrive in India next week to advance the ongoing negotiations.
“There has been positive and constructive engagements so far,” Jaiswal noted, indicating that both sides are progressing towards a mutually beneficial trade framework amid broader global tariff uncertainties.
Energy Security: India Diversifying Sources Globally
On the question of energy security, spokesperson Jaiswal underscored its critical importance for India’s growing economy. He stated that New Delhi is actively working to diversify its energy sources from across the world and welcomes support from various international markets.
This reflects India’s long-standing policy of maintaining strategic autonomy in energy procurement, including engagement with multiple suppliers to reduce dependency on any single source.
Bolivia Unrest: India Monitoring Developments Closely
Replying to a query regarding the ongoing unrest in Bolivia, Jaiswal said that India is closely following the developments in the South American nation. No further details were shared at this stage.
