New Delhi: The India-Bangladesh Border Talks concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace, tranquility, and stability along the India-Bangladesh border. The understanding was reached during the 57th Director General Level Border Coordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), held at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi from June 8 to June 11.

The conference served as an important platform for reviewing the prevailing border situation and discussing matters of mutual concern related to border security and border management. Senior officials from both countries participated in detailed discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and ensuring effective management of the international border.

BSF and BGB Review Border Security Situation

The Indian delegation was led by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, while the Bangladesh delegation was headed by Border Guard Bangladesh Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.

During the four-day conference, both sides reviewed the existing security environment along the border and assessed various challenges related to border management. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the two border guarding forces and addressing issues affecting security and public safety in border areas.

Officials examined measures already in place and explored ways to improve coordination in tackling emerging threats and operational challenges along the border.

India-Bangladesh Border Talks Focus on Stronger Coordination

A major outcome of the conference was the agreement to further strengthen coordinated patrols and surveillance activities along the border. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining close cooperation to prevent illegal activities and ensure a secure border environment.

The delegations agreed to enhance vigilance and improve real-time information sharing mechanisms between the two forces. Officials noted that timely exchange of intelligence and operational information plays a crucial role in addressing security concerns and responding effectively to incidents along the border.

The two countries also agreed to intensify joint efforts against trans-border criminal networks involved in activities such as smuggling, illegal movement, and other cross-border crimes.

Joint Efforts Against Cross-Border Crime

Cross-border criminal activities remain a concern for both countries, making cooperation between BSF and BGB essential. During the conference, both sides discussed strategies to curb illegal activities and improve enforcement measures along the international border.

Officials stressed that stronger coordination and regular communication between field units would help in addressing criminal networks operating across borders. Enhanced surveillance, intelligence sharing, and joint operational efforts are expected to contribute to improved border security.

The discussions reflected the shared commitment of India and Bangladesh to preventing unlawful activities while facilitating peaceful and lawful movement in border regions.

Joint Record of Discussions Signed

The conference concluded with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions, reflecting the decisions and understandings reached during the meeting. Both delegations expressed confidence that the agreed measures would further strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute significantly to effective border management.

The two sides stated that the outcomes of the conference would support continued peace and stability along the border while reinforcing the friendly relations between India and Bangladesh.

Officials highlighted that regular engagement between BSF and BGB remains an important mechanism for addressing border-related concerns and promoting mutual trust.

Next Conference to Be Held in Dhaka

As part of continued cooperation, the next Director General Level Border Coordination Conference has been proposed to be held in Dhaka at a mutually convenient time in November 2026.

The decision reflects the commitment of both countries to maintaining regular dialogue on border management issues. Such meetings provide an opportunity to review progress, address challenges, and strengthen collaboration between the two border forces.

The latest India-Bangladesh Border Talks underscore the importance both nations place on peaceful border management, coordinated security efforts, and sustained bilateral engagement. The agreements reached during the conference are expected to contribute to enhanced border security and stronger cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the years ahead.
