Pakistan Kills Protesters in PoK: India Raises Alarm at MEA Briefing
India raised serious concern over the killing of protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at Tuesday’s weekly MEA briefing. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said several protesters have been killed and many others injured as Pakistani security forces carried out a crackdown in the region. Jaiswal said India hopes the international community will hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.
MEA Takes Note of Police Brutality Reports in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday took serious note of multiple reports of severe police brutality against protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to the reports, several protesters have been killed and many others injured as Pakistani security forces carried out a crackdown in the region.
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while addressing the weekly media briefing in New Delhi, said India hopes the international community will hold Pakistan accountable for its misdeeds and human rights abuses in the region.
Jaiswal said the situation in PoK has been marked by persistent concerns over governance, economic conditions and denial of basic rights to the local population. He noted that the latest reports of violence have drawn renewed attention to the ground situation in the Pakistan-administered territory.
The MEA’s remarks come amid reports of growing unrest in PoK, where residents have been protesting over issues including rising prices, lack of basic amenities and absence of political representation. Pakistani security forces have reportedly responded to the protests with force, leading to casualties among the demonstrators.
Pakistan Accused of Circulating Fake News, Says MEA
Jaiswal said the ministry has observed a consistent pattern of fake news and fabricated videos being circulated from Pakistan. He described it as a deliberate attempt by Islamabad to cover up its own failings and deflect international attention from its human rights abuses in the region.
The MEA urged the international community, human rights organisations and media to look beyond Pakistan’s narrative and take note of ground realities in PoK. Jaiswal said that reports and visuals from the region continue to surface despite attempts to restrict the flow of information from the ground.
He added that India will continue to raise the issue of human rights violations in PoK at appropriate international forums and expects the global community to respond with accountability measures against Pakistan.
All 24 Indian Crew Members of MT Marivex Rescued Safely
MEA Spokesperson Jaiswal confirmed that all 24 Indian crew members who were aboard the ship MT Marivex have been safely rescued. The Indian Embassy played a key role in coordinating with Omani authorities to facilitate the timely rescue of the crew.
Jaiswal thanked the Government of Oman for its support and cooperation in ensuring the safety of the Indian nationals. He said the embassy remained in close contact with local authorities throughout the rescue operation to ensure all crew members were accounted for and brought to safety.
The MT Marivex incident underlined the importance of India’s consular presence and diplomatic coordination in responding to emergencies involving Indian nationals in maritime and overseas sectors. The rescue operation was completed without any loss of life among the 24 crew members.
India Reiterates Support for Afghan People
Jaiswal reaffirmed that India remains focused on fostering peace, stability and development in Afghanistan. He said India’s engagement with Afghanistan is carried forward through sustained humanitarian assistance, development cooperation and capacity-building initiatives.
He said India continues to provide support to Afghanistan in the areas of food security, healthcare and pharmaceutical assistance. In addition, India has been extending scholarships and capacity building opportunities to Afghan nationals as part of its ongoing bilateral engagement.
Jaiswal noted that India’s support for Afghanistan remains consistent and is aimed at addressing the needs of the Afghan people. He said New Delhi’s approach to Afghanistan is guided by a focus on humanitarian needs and long-term development rather than short-term political considerations.
India has maintained its engagement with Afghanistan across successive governments and continues to work through bilateral and multilateral channels to support the country’s development and stability.
MEA Briefing Covers Multiple Areas of Foreign Policy
Tuesday’s weekly MEA briefing addressed several key areas of India’s foreign policy engagement. Jaiswal spoke on the deteriorating human rights situation in PoK, Pakistan’s disinformation campaign, the successful rescue of 24 Indian crew members from MT Marivex and India’s continued humanitarian and development support for Afghanistan.
