The Centre on Thursday assured citizens that the India fuel supply stable situation continues despite rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said adequate stocks of crude oil, LPG, petrol and diesel are available across the country and there is no immediate concern regarding fuel availability.
The statement was made during an inter-ministerial media briefing in New Delhi where senior officials reviewed the country’s fuel and fertiliser preparedness. The government said it has activated multiple contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and maintain national energy security amid global uncertainties.
Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Praveen Khanuja, said domestic refineries and gas processing facilities have significantly increased production to strengthen supply chains. According to officials, refinery output touched nearly 53 thousand metric tonnes yesterday, marking an increase of around 60 per cent compared to pre-crisis levels.
The assurance comes at a time when global energy markets are witnessing volatility due to tensions in the West Asia region, a major source of crude oil supplies for several countries including India.
Crude Oil, LPG and Diesel Stocks Remain Comfortable
Officials said the India fuel supply stable position has been supported by sufficient reserve stocks and continuous monitoring of fuel distribution networks across states. Petroleum companies and refinery operators have also been directed to maintain smooth logistics operations to avoid disruptions in supply.
India imports a large portion of its crude oil requirements, and any instability in the global market often affects international oil prices. However, government officials stated that strategic planning and diversified import arrangements have helped maintain fuel availability across the country.
The Ministry added that there is currently no shortage of LPG cylinders, petrol or diesel in any region. Oil Marketing Companies are continuing regular distribution without interruption, while supply chains are functioning normally in both urban and rural markets.
Experts believe the government’s proactive response is aimed at preventing panic buying and ensuring confidence among consumers during the ongoing international crisis.
Fertiliser Availability Also Under Review
Along with the fuel review, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers also shared updates regarding fertiliser availability for the ongoing Kharif season. Additional Secretary Aparna Sharma informed that fertiliser stocks across the country remain comfortable and there is no major shortage.
Officials said the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has reassessed the total fertiliser requirement for the current Kharif season at more than 380 lakh metric tonnes. So far, farmers have already purchased nearly 86 lakh metric tonnes, which accounts for more than 23 per cent of the projected demand.
The government said continuous coordination is taking place among fertiliser manufacturers, transport authorities and state administrations to maintain smooth supply during the peak agricultural season.
Focus on Energy Security Amid Global Uncertainty
India’s fuel supply stability comes amid pressure from fluctuating crude oil prices and supply disruptions linked to geopolitical developments in West Asia. India has been expanding its energy security strategy in recent years through increased refinery capacity, strategic petroleum reserves and diversified import partnerships.
Officials also highlighted that the government remains prepared to take additional steps if global conditions worsen further. Monitoring mechanisms are currently active at multiple levels to assess fuel consumption patterns, refinery production and international crude oil trends.
Energy analysts say India’s strong refinery infrastructure and storage capacity have played a key role in protecting the domestic market from sudden supply shocks. The country has also strengthened cooperation with multiple oil-producing nations to reduce dependency on a single region.
The government reiterated that citizens do not need to worry about fuel availability, as petroleum supplies, LPG distribution and fertiliser stocks continue to remain stable across the country.
