India 80th Independence Day celebrations have received warm greetings from world leaders and foreign missions, with messages praising the country’s democratic journey, rich civilizational heritage and growing role in regional and global cooperation. Leaders and diplomats from several countries highlighted India’s progress since independence while emphasising the importance of its partnerships with nations across the world.

India 80th Independence Day Draws Global Greetings

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the strengthening strategic partnership between India and the United States while extending his greetings to the Indian people. His message reflected the growing importance of bilateral ties between the two countries, particularly in areas of strategic cooperation and shared global interests.

Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam also conveyed his wishes to India, highlighting the expanding partnership between the two countries. His message underlined cooperation in skills development, digitalisation, sustainability and advanced manufacturing, areas that are becoming increasingly important to both economies.

French President Emmanuel Macron extended his warm wishes to India on the occasion. His message reflected the close and expanding relationship between India and France, particularly in areas of strategic cooperation and international engagement.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also congratulated President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India. Herzog shared his message in Hindi as well, adding a personal element to his Independence Day greetings and reflecting the close relationship between India and Israel.

World Leaders Praise India’s Progress and Heritage

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah extended his greetings and best wishes to India, reflecting the close historical and geographical ties between the two neighbouring countries. Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wished India continued progress, unity and prosperity as it marked the national occasion.

Several diplomatic missions and ambassadors joined the celebrations with messages highlighting India’s heritage, diversity and economic potential. Greetings were shared by Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar, Argentine Ambassador Mariano Caucino, Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mahishini Colonné, the Embassy of Nepal, the French Embassy, Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner and Canada’s High Commission.

The messages from the diplomatic community highlighted India’s expanding bilateral relationships and its increasing role in international cooperation. They also recognised the country’s cultural diversity, economic potential and contribution to regional stability.

For India, such international greetings reflect the country’s growing diplomatic outreach and its position as an increasingly important partner in discussions involving economic development, technology, sustainability and regional cooperation.

Maldives Highlights Close India Ties

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu also joined the global greetings for India 80th Independence Day, describing eight decades of independence as a reflection of India’s aspirations, resilience and enduring spirit.

Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Maldives National Party President Mohamed Nazim also praised India’s development and its close relationship with the Maldives. Their messages reflected the longstanding social, economic and diplomatic connections between the two countries.

The Maldives and India share strong people-to-people links and extensive cooperation across several areas. The greetings from Maldivian leaders therefore added significance to the broader international messages marking India’s national celebration.

Vande Mataram Marks Historic Milestone

This year’s India 80th Independence Day celebrations also carry historical significance with the commemoration of 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram.” The milestone has added a strong cultural and historical dimension to the national celebrations.

Alongside the country’s past achievements, this year’s celebrations have also placed emphasis on India’s youth and their aspirations for the future. Young Indians are being recognised for their role in contributing to the vision of building a developed India by 2047.
