New Delhi: The National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) has issued an advisory calling upon media organisations, stakeholders, and members of the public to exercise responsibility while making statements related to Homoeopathy and duly registered homoeopathic practitioners. The Commission emphasized the importance of factual accuracy and responsible communication in public discussions concerning the healthcare system.
The NCH Advisory on Homoeopathy comes amid reports of derogatory, defamatory, misleading, and unverified statements being circulated through print, electronic, digital, and social media platforms. According to the Commission, the spread of inaccurate information can create confusion among the public and negatively affect informed healthcare discussions.
NCH Highlights Legal Recognition of Homoeopathy
Chairperson of the National Commission for Homoeopathy, Dr Tarkeshwar Jain, stated that Homoeopathy is a legally recognised system of medicine under the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020. He said the system operates within a structured legal and regulatory framework established by the Government of India.
Dr Jain noted that Homoeopathy has been recognized as one of the country’s established healthcare systems and continues to function under laws and regulations designed to maintain professional and educational standards. The Commission reiterated that public discussions regarding any healthcare system should be based on verified facts and reliable information.
Homoeopathic Medicines Regulated Under Existing Laws
The Commission highlighted that homoeopathic medicines are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. This legislation provides the legal framework governing the manufacture, quality standards, sale, and distribution of medicines in the country.
According to the advisory, the regulatory provisions help ensure that homoeopathic medicines are subject to prescribed standards and oversight mechanisms. The Commission stressed that awareness of the legal framework is important when discussing the role and functioning of Homoeopathy in India.
Structured Medical Education Through NEET Admissions
Dr Jain also drew attention to the educational standards followed within the Homoeopathy sector. He stated that undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Homoeopathy are conducted under a structured academic framework prescribed by the National Commission for Homoeopathy.
Admissions to Homoeopathy courses are carried out through candidates who qualify in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The Commission said this process helps maintain transparency and uniformity in admissions while ensuring that students entering the profession meet prescribed eligibility requirements.
The advisory further noted that registered homoeopathic practitioners undergo formal education and training before entering professional practice. Educational institutions offering Homoeopathy courses are required to comply with standards established by the Commission.
Advisory Calls for Responsible Public Communication
The NCH Advisory on Homoeopathy urged media organisations, content creators, and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing claims related to Homoeopathy. The Commission stated that healthcare-related information should be presented responsibly to avoid misinformation and misunderstanding among the public.
The advisory emphasized that discussions involving medical systems and healthcare professionals should be conducted with accuracy and fairness. It added that responsible reporting can contribute to informed decision-making and constructive public discourse.
Commission Warns Against Defamatory and Misleading Statements
Reiterating the Commission’s commitment to protecting the dignity and lawful standing of Homoeopathy and registered practitioners, Dr Jain stated that appropriate action may be taken against deliberate attempts to spread baseless, misleading, or defamatory information.
The Commission indicated that legal recourse could be considered in cases where false information is intentionally circulated to damage the reputation of Homoeopathy or its practitioners. It maintained that accountability and factual accuracy are essential components of public communication.
Importance of Accurate Healthcare Information
Healthcare experts often point out that access to reliable information is critical for public awareness and informed decision-making. With the rapid growth of digital communication platforms, information can reach large audiences within a short period, making accuracy increasingly important.
The National Commission for Homoeopathy stated that it remains committed to upholding professional standards, supporting responsible communication, and ensuring that discussions about Homoeopathy are based on verified facts. The advisory serves as a reminder of the importance of balanced, evidence-based, and respectful public discourse concerning recognised healthcare systems in India.
