Attack on BJP Leader’s Close Aide
Kolkata, West Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant, Chandranath Rath, was shot dead in Madhyamgram near Kolkata, just two days after the BJP’s major victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
According to reports, Rath was travelling in a car when unidentified assailants followed the vehicle and opened fire after it slowed down.
Three Bullets Hit the Victim
Sources said four rounds were fired at the vehicle, out of which three bullets struck Rath. Visuals from the scene showed bullet holes and cracks on the left front window of the car.
Rath reportedly died from his injuries after the attack.
Driver Injured in the Incident
The victim’s driver, identified as Buddhadeb, was also injured during the firing and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred in the Madhyamgram assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district near Kolkata.
Long-Time Associate of Suvendu Adhikari
Chandranath Rath had reportedly worked with Adhikari for several years and handled political coordination and other key responsibilities. He was considered part of the BJP leader’s close inner circle.
Adhikari rushed to the hospital in Madhyamgram after learning about the incident.
BJP Demands CBI Probe
Dibyendu Adhikari stated that Suvendu Adhikari was not present in the vehicle during the attack.
He demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and alleged involvement of the Trinamool Congress in the incident.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the killing.
