Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday met Droupadi Murmu and submitted a formal representation alleging harassment of Members of Parliament who recently exited the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chadha, accompanied by three other MPs, accused the AAP-led Punjab government of engaging in “vendetta politics” and misusing state machinery to target leaders who chose to leave the party. The delegation met the President in New Delhi and highlighted what they described as “politically motivated” actions taken against them after their departure from AAP.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chadha said that the MPs had exercised their constitutional right to dissent and disassociate from the party. He alleged that the treatment of leaders changed drastically after their exit.
“As long as we were obedient, we were considered cultured. The moment we left, we were branded corrupt,” Chadha said.
He further claimed that several former AAP MPs who have since aligned with the BJP are facing intimidation and coercive measures through state agencies. According to him, these actions are aimed at silencing political dissent and discouraging leaders from switching allegiances.
The issue comes amid ongoing political tensions between AAP and BJP, particularly in Punjab, where AAP is in power. Allegations of misuse of investigative agencies and administrative mechanisms have frequently surfaced in India’s political landscape, especially during high-profile party defections.
While the MPs have sought the intervention of the President, there has been no immediate official response from the AAP leadership regarding the allegations at the time of publication.
The development adds another layer to the evolving political dynamics in the Rajya Sabha, where party alignments and defections continue to influence the balance of power.
