Netanyahu Visits Southern Lebanon Amid Ongoing Conflict

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited southern Lebanon on Sunday, meeting troops on the ground as tensions with Hezbollah continue to escalate.

Wearing a flak vest, Netanyahu’s visit comes at a critical time, signalling a strong message amid ongoing military operations.

“War Continues,” Says Israeli PM

In a video released by his office, Netanyahu stated that the war in Lebanon is far from over.

“The war continues, including within the security zone in Lebanon,” he said.

He added that Israeli forces have successfully thwarted threats of an invasion by militants.

Claim of Neutralising Threats

According to Netanyahu, Israel has managed to prevent a potential incursion from Hezbollah through its security operations in the region.

He emphasized that maintaining security for northern Israel remains the top priority.

No Ceasefire, Strikes to Continue

Earlier this week, Netanyahu made it clear that there is no ceasefire in place with Hezbollah.

“We are continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force, and we will not stop until we restore your security,” he said in a separate statement.

The Israeli military has since launched fresh strikes targeting Hezbollah launch sites.

Push for Talks Alongside Military Action

Despite the ongoing conflict, Netanyahu has also indicated willingness for diplomatic engagement.

He confirmed authorising direct negotiations with Lebanon, aiming at two key objectives:

  • Disarmament of Hezbollah
  • A long-term peace agreement between Israel and Lebanon

Accompanied by Defence Minister

Netanyahu was accompanied during the visit by Defence Minister Israel Katz, underlining the significance of the trip.

Long-Standing Conflict

Israel and Lebanon have technically remained in a state of conflict since 1948, with periodic escalations over the decades.

The current developments highlight the fragile situation in the region, with both military action and diplomatic efforts unfolding simultaneously.
