Spy-Like Number Plate Trick Exposed in Hyderabad
In a shocking case straight out of a movie, police in Hyderabad uncovered a BMW car fitted with a remote-controlled system that allowed the driver to switch number plates at the press of a button.
The illegal setup enabled the vehicle to conceal its original registration plate and display a fake one, raising serious concerns over law enforcement evasion.
Caught During Routine Drunk-Driving Check
The incident came to light when police stopped the luxury car during a routine drunk-driving check in an upscale area of the city.
According to officials, the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol during the inspection.
Remote Mechanism Used to Evade Detection
Upon examining the vehicle, police discovered a hidden mechanism connected to a remote control. The system could instantly swap the original number plate with a dummy plate bearing a different registration number.
This setup made it difficult for traffic cameras and automated enforcement systems to identify violations.
Authorities also recorded a video demonstrating how the mechanism functioned after seizing the vehicle.
Case Registered, Car Seized
Police have registered a case against the driver under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including charges for drunk driving, tampering with vehicle registration, and using unauthorized modifications.
The BMW has been seized as part of the investigation.
Investigation Underway
Officials are now probing whether the system had been used earlier to commit traffic violations or evade penalties.
Authorities reiterated that such modifications are illegal and pose a serious threat to road safety and law enforcement mechanisms.
