Ranveer Singh Don 3 Exit Triggers FWICE Non-Cooperation Notice
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for non-cooperation with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh following his abrupt exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 in late 2025, escalating what began as a creative dispute into a full-blown trade controversy with significant financial and professional consequences.
FWICE, which represents over four lakh technicians across 30 crafts in the Hindi film industry, has urged its members to avoid working with Ranveer Singh until the matter is resolved. The federation described the Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit as a trade issue that caused serious harm to the workers and technicians who bore the brunt of the financial fallout from the actor’s sudden departure.
The federation’s non-cooperation call is one of the most significant actions taken by FWICE in recent years and has sent a strong signal to the industry about accountability when productions collapse at the pre-shoot stage.
Ranveer Singh Don 3 Exit: What Led to the Departure
The Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit came just weeks before the shoot was scheduled to begin, catching the production team at Excel Entertainment completely off guard. The abrupt departure left the production in a difficult position, with substantial pre-production investments already committed across multiple departments.
Excel Entertainment, the production house run by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, claimed that the sudden exit caused losses of nearly Rs 45 crore. These losses stemmed from expenses incurred during the pre-production phase, including location scouting, set design, crew contracts, and other logistical commitments made in preparation for the shoot.
Reports suggest that the Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit was triggered by creative differences between the actor and Farhan Akhtar over the tone and direction of the film. Ranveer is said to have pushed for a darker and more intense version of Don, while Farhan preferred to retain the franchise’s signature stylish aesthetic and mass-appeal tone that had defined the earlier instalments starring Shah Rukh Khan.
FWICE Non-Cooperation Notice: Federation’s Stand
The FWICE non-cooperation directive reflects the federation’s commitment to protecting the livelihoods of its members, who are often the most vulnerable when high-profile productions are derailed. Technicians, crew members, and daily wage workers who had signed contracts and made themselves available for the Don 3 shoot found themselves without work and without compensation when the project was suddenly disrupted.
FWICE has a long history of intervening in trade disputes within the Hindi film industry and has previously issued non-cooperation notices against producers and distributors who failed to honour financial commitments to workers. The decision to extend such action to an actor of Ranveer Singh’s stature is notable and underscores the seriousness with which the federation views the Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit and its impact on the workforce.
The federation has made clear that it remains open to dialogue and that the non-cooperation call can be withdrawn if the matter is resolved to the satisfaction of all affected parties, leaving room for a negotiated settlement between Ranveer Singh’s team and Excel Entertainment.
Ranveer Singh’s Team Maintains Restraint
Ranveer Singh’s representatives have maintained restraint in their public response to both the Excel Entertainment claims and the FWICE non-cooperation notice. The actor’s team has not issued a detailed rebuttal of the creative differences reported in the media, nor has it publicly contested the financial loss figures cited by the production house.
Industry observers have noted that the Ranveer Singh Don 3 exit places the actor in a delicate position at a critical juncture in his career. He will be keen to resolve the dispute and restore his standing with the industry’s technical workforce, particularly given the scale and influence of FWICE across Bollywood productions.
The Don 3 controversy has reignited broader conversations within Bollywood about the responsibilities of actors when they commit to and subsequently exit projects, and what safeguards exist to protect the livelihoods of the thousands of workers who depend on major productions moving forward as planned.
