Karnataka Congress MLAs Head to Delhi

Around 30 senior Congress legislators from Karnataka have headed to New Delhi, seeking a meeting with senior party leader Rahul Gandhi to press for ministerial berths and a Cabinet reshuffle in the state.

The move reflects growing pressure within the party ranks, with several leaders demanding inclusion in the government.

Demand for Cabinet Reshuffle Gains Momentum

The MLAs are pushing for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to undertake a Cabinet reshuffle, arguing that many deserving leaders are yet to be accommodated.

The demand comes amid increasing dissatisfaction following recent by-elections and internal discussions within the party.

Strategy Meeting Triggered Move

Sources indicate that the visit follows a strategy meeting held over dinner in March, where the legislators collectively decided to approach the party high command with their demands.

Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna stated that many leaders have already been given multiple opportunities, while others are still waiting.

“There are leaders who have been given chances three, four, even five times. We are requesting that those who have not yet been accommodated be given an opportunity,” he said.

Call for Collective Leadership

Echoing similar sentiments, Congress MLA Ashok Pattan emphasized the need for collective leadership within the party.

He noted that nearly three years have passed since earlier assurances of accommodating more leaders, delays attributed partly to elections and Assembly sessions.

“We are requesting that the Cabinet be reshuffled as soon as possible and that senior members like us be given an opportunity,” he said.

High Command Meetings Planned

The group is expected to meet Mallikarjun Kharge and will also attempt to connect with senior leaders such as KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, and Rahul Gandhi, depending on their availability.

Demand for Larger Cabinet Expansion

The MLAs are reportedly seeking a significant Cabinet overhaul, with demands to open up around 25 positions to accommodate new faces.

They argue that repeated appointments of the same leaders have limited opportunities for others within the party.

“No Controversy, Only Opportunity”

Leaders have maintained that their visit is focused solely on seeking fair representation and opportunities within the ministry.

“It is for the high command to take a decision. There is nothing controversial in our demand,” Pattan added.
