PM Modi IIT Delhi Convocation address saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging graduating students to keep national interest at the heart of every decision they make. Speaking at the IIT Delhi 57th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Mr Modi asked students to constantly evaluate how their actions and choices could benefit the country and address its pressing needs.

The Prime Minister told the graduating batch that every generation faces distinct challenges shaped by its own time, and along with those challenges comes a unique national responsibility. In line with his message on PM Modi students national interest, he emphasised that the work these students undertake over the next three to three and a half decades will play a decisive role in shaping India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat, or developed nation, by the time the country marks a century of independence.
Mr Modi’s remarks placed particular emphasis on the responsibility that comes with technical education from a premier institution like IIT Delhi, suggesting that the skills and knowledge gained here should translate into meaningful contributions to nation building.
New Sectors, New Opportunities for India’s Youth
The Prime Minister highlighted that India is witnessing the emergence of entirely new sectors that are opening fresh avenues for young talent. He specifically pointed to semiconductors, space technology, and drones as areas where the country is making significant strides. According to Mr Modi, India is actively working towards self reliance across all these emerging sectors as part of its Viksit Bharat vision.
This drive towards self reliance, he said, would serve as a strong and lasting foundation for building a developed India. The mention of these sectors signals the government’s continued push towards positioning India as a global hub for advanced technology and manufacturing, with young engineers and innovators expected to lead this transformation.
“Life Is Not a Leaderboard,” PM Tells Students
Addressing the pressures that come with social media in the current era, Mr Modi cautioned students against falling into the trap of comparing themselves with peers based on salary packages, job profiles, or the sectors they choose to work in. He told the graduating class that life should not be viewed as a leaderboard and that one’s journey is not a competition against others, but rather a continuous effort to improve against oneself.
During this part of the PM Modi IIT Delhi Convocation speech, the Prime Minister urged students to adopt a mindset of daily self improvement, encouraging them to strive each day to become better than they were the day before. Education Minister Lauds Learner-Centric Vision
Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi said that Mr Modi’s vision has transformed India’s education ecosystem into one that is learner centric, research driven, and future ready. He added that the Prime Minister has instilled fresh confidence in the country’s academic institutions, enabling campuses to produce not just graduates, but innovators, researchers, and nation builders.
Joshi’s remarks reinforced the government’s narrative around education reform, positioning institutions like IIT Delhi as central to India’s ambitions in research and innovation.
Param Pragya Facility Inaugurated
The ceremony was also attended by Harish Salve, Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIT Delhi, and Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi. During the visit, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new high performance computing facility named “Param Pragya” at the institute, a move expected to significantly boost research capabilities in computing intensive fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and advanced scientific simulations.
High performance computing facilities like Param Pragya are increasingly seen as critical infrastructure for institutions aiming to compete at the global level in cutting edge research. Such systems allow researchers and students to process massive datasets, run complex simulations, and accelerate breakthroughs in areas ranging from climate modelling and drug discovery to next generation semiconductor design. For IIT Delhi, the facility is expected to strengthen ongoing projects across multiple departments and open up new collaborative research opportunities with both domestic and international institutions.
The PM Modi IIT Delhi Convocation event concluded with the inauguration of Param Pragya, underlining the government’s continued investment in world class research infrastructure within India’s premier technical institutions, supporting the broader push towards technological self-reliance and innovation led growth.
