Parliament adjourned over NEET paper leak protest on Tuesday after repeated disruptions by Opposition members stalled proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha throughout the day. Members of the Opposition demanded a discussion on the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG examination, leading to multiple adjournments before both Houses were finally adjourned for the day.
The disruptions began shortly after both Houses assembled in the morning. While the government attempted to proceed with the scheduled business, Opposition MPs continued raising slogans and pressing for an immediate debate on the NEET paper leak issue and other matters, leaving the presiding officers with little option but to repeatedly suspend proceedings.
Lok Sabha Pays Tribute Before Opposition Protest
The Lok Sabha commenced its sitting at 11:00 am with obituary references to six former Members of Parliament, Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, Omwati Devi, Sudhangshu Seal, Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri (Retd.), K.P. Dhanapalan and Pyare Lal Sankhwar.
The House also paid tribute to Father Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, with Speaker Om Birla acknowledging his contribution to strengthening India-Qatar relations and recognising his role in laying the foundation of modern Qatar.
However, when the Speaker attempted to begin Question Hour, Opposition members, including MPs from the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, raised slogans demanding discussion on the NEET paper leak. Despite repeated appeals by the Speaker to maintain order, the protests continued, forcing the House to be adjourned.
Repeated Adjournments Bring Lok Sabha to a Standstill
The Lok Sabha witnessed a series of adjournments at 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and later 3:00 pm, with little legislative business taking place.
Presiding Officer Dilip Saikia appealed to members to allow healthy debate and reminded them that Parliament is meant for discussing issues of public importance. However, the Opposition continued its protest, resulting in repeated disruptions and ultimately forcing the Chair to adjourn the House for the remainder of the day.
Rajya Sabha Also Faces Uproar Over NEET Paper Leak Protest
The Rajya Sabha witnessed similar scenes as Opposition members repeatedly raised the NEET paper leak issue. Before the disruptions began, the Upper House administered the oath to newly elected members, including Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mahesh Kewat, Dr Satish Poonia, Prakash Chik Baraik, Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Pawan Khera, James Sangma and K. Laltluangkima.
The House also paid tributes to former members Balbir K. Punj, Swapan Sadhan Bose, Rangasayee Ramakrishna and H. Hanumanthappa.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge attempted to raise the NEET issue soon after proceedings began. Amid continued slogan-shouting, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan and later Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the House multiple times before finally calling it a day.
NEET Paper Leak Continues to Dominate Political Debate
The NEET paper leak issue has emerged as one of the most contentious subjects during the current Parliament session. Opposition parties have been demanding a detailed discussion, greater accountability and stronger safeguards to restore confidence in the country’s medical entrance examination system.
The government has maintained that appropriate action is being taken through investigative agencies while reiterating its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in national-level examinations. However, the issue has continued to trigger repeated confrontations inside Parliament.

The controversy surrounding NEET gained national attention after allegations of question paper leaks and examination irregularities led to widespread protests by students and political parties. The matter has been investigated by central agencies, while authorities have introduced several measures aimed at strengthening examination security and preventing future malpractice.
The issue has since become a recurring point of confrontation in Parliament, with Opposition parties repeatedly seeking dedicated discussions on examination reforms and accountability.

With both Houses repeatedly adjourned, several scheduled legislative and parliamentary matters could not be taken up. Parliamentary affairs experts note that prolonged disruptions not only delay legislative business but also reduce opportunities for detailed discussions on policy matters and public issues.
The government is expected to seek cooperation from all political parties to ensure smoother functioning of Parliament in the coming sittings, while the Opposition has indicated that it will continue pressing its demand for a comprehensive discussion on the NEET paper leak issue.
