New Delhi: Supreme Court case files thrown during a hearing created dramatic scenes inside the country’s highest court on Friday after a petitioner appearing in person allegedly hurled a bundle of documents towards the Bench, raised slogans and made remarks against the judiciary before being escorted out by security personnel.
The petitioner, identified as Prabal Pratap, had approached the Supreme Court seeking directions for registration of an FIR against ACP Vikasnagar in Lucknow and Duplex Technologies Services, alleging the existence of a nationwide cybercrime syndicate.
Supreme Court Case Files Thrown During Hearing
The matter was being heard by a Bench comprising Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe.
According to reports from the courtroom, Pratap became visibly agitated after the Bench indicated it was not inclined to grant the relief sought in his Special Leave Petition (SLP). Despite repeated requests to maintain courtroom decorum, he allegedly continued arguing with the judges.
Witnesses said the petitioner suddenly threw a bundle of case papers towards the Bench. He had reportedly brought extensive documentation, including a file running nearly 180 pages, which he claimed supported his allegations against the police officer and the private company.
The Bench eventually dismissed his petition.
Petitioner Allegedly Raised Slogans and Made Remarks
The situation escalated after the dismissal of the petition, with Pratap allegedly raising slogans inside the courtroom and making remarks against Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
Court staff and security personnel immediately intervened before the disturbance could intensify. The petitioner was escorted out of the courtroom, allowing proceedings to resume shortly afterwards.
Despite the disruption, the judges reportedly expressed sympathy for the petitioner’s frustration but declined to grant the relief he had requested.
Petition Sought FIR Over Alleged Cybercrime Syndicate
Pratap’s petition sought directions for registration of an FIR against ACP Vikasnagar of Lucknow and Duplex Technologies Services.
He alleged that the respondents were involved in operating a nationwide cybercrime network and submitted what he described as substantial documentary evidence in support of his claims.
However, the Supreme Court found no grounds to entertain the Special Leave Petition and dismissed it.
Courtroom Decorum Under Spotlight
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of maintaining discipline inside courtrooms.
Legal experts note that while every litigant has the right to seek judicial remedies and present grievances before the court, courtroom proceedings are governed by established rules of conduct. Any attempt to obstruct proceedings or engage in disorderly behaviour may attract legal consequences, including contempt proceedings in appropriate cases.
Although the Supreme Court has witnessed a handful of isolated security-related incidents over the years, disruptions of this nature remain rare because of the stringent security arrangements in place.
Why the Incident Stands Out
While litigants expressing dissatisfaction with court orders is not uncommon, disruptions of this nature inside the Supreme Court remain extremely rare because of the strict security and courtroom protocols in place.
Legal experts note that maintaining decorum is essential for the administration of justice, and any attempt to interfere with judicial proceedings can undermine the functioning of the court.
The incident has therefore attracted attention not only because it interrupted proceedings but also because it occurred inside the country’s highest judicial institution.
No Immediate Action Announced
Following the incident, normal proceedings resumed without further interruption.
As of now, no official statement has been issued regarding any separate legal action against Prabal Pratap over the courtroom disturbance. The matter is expected to be dealt with in accordance with the Supreme Court’s established procedures and applicable law.
