RG Kar Case IPS Officers Suspended

RG Kar case IPS officers suspended after newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced disciplinary action against three senior police officers linked to the controversial 2024 case.

The suspended officers include former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, along with IPS officers Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta.

Departmental Inquiry Ordered

According to officials, the three officers will face a departmental inquiry over their alleged handling of the August 2024 RG Kar incident.

The allegations reportedly include misconduct, procedural lapses, and claims that attempts were made to offer bribes to the victim’s family during the course of the investigation.

The RG Kar case IPS officers suspended development marks one of the first major administrative actions taken by the new BJP-led government in West Bengal.

Announcement Made During Public Address

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the suspensions during a public address, stating that his government remained committed to ensuring accountability in sensitive criminal investigations.

Supporters of the BJP government described the move as fulfillment of election promises made during the assembly campaign, which focused heavily on law-and-order and corruption issues.

The political change came after the BJP’s landslide victory ended the All India Trinamool Congress government’s 15-year rule in the state.

CBI Probe Still Continuing

The suspensions come after civic volunteer Sanjay Roy received a life sentence in connection with the case.

However, the Central Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate allegations related to evidence tampering and the broader handling of the case.

Officials said further action could follow depending on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.

Political Reactions Continue

While BJP leaders praised the action as necessary for restoring public confidence, opposition leaders questioned the timing and accused the government of politicising the issue.

The RG Kar case IPS officers suspended story has continued to draw nationwide attention due to its legal, political, and administrative implications.
