ED Conducts Raids on AAP MP Ashok Mittal
The Enforcement Directorate carried out searches at multiple properties linked to Ashok Mittal in Punjab as part of an ongoing probe under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
The raids covered his residence, farmhouse, and premises associated with the Lovely Professional University, which he founded.
Multiple Locations Searched
Officials also searched other sites belonging to the Lovely Group, including properties linked to Mittal’s son, as part of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities and FEMA violations.
Sources said the action was based on financial leads, though no arrests have been made so far.
Recent Political Development
Ashok Mittal was recently appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha on April 1, replacing Raghav Chadha amid reports of internal party dynamics.
AAP Alleges Political Targeting
Senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, including Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, have termed the ED action as politically motivated.
They alleged that the raids are aimed at targeting opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
ED Defends Action
The Enforcement Directorate, however, maintains that the raids are part of a legitimate investigation based on financial evidence and not influenced by political considerations.
Investigation Continues
Officials are currently examining documents and digital records seized during the searches to determine the next course of action.
