Delhi Cleans Up Before Monsoon: MCD Chief Launches New Waste Facility, Inspects Drains & Garbage Hotspots

New Delhi:
In a major push to strengthen sanitation ahead of the monsoon season, Sanjeev Khirwar, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), inaugurated a Fixed Compactor Transfer Station at Panchkuiyan Road and carried out an extensive inspection of the Karol Bagh zone.


♻️ New Waste Facility to Boost Efficiency

The newly inaugurated Fixed Compactor Transfer Station is expected to:

  • Improve waste collection and transportation efficiency
  • Reduce open garbage dumping
  • Strengthen overall solid waste management infrastructure

🌧️ Monsoon Preparedness in Focus

During the inspection, Khirwar reviewed desilting operations of key drains, including:

  • Dariyayi Drain
  • DTC Drain leading to Naraina Industrial Area

The review comes as part of efforts to prevent waterlogging and urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon.


🗑️ Inspection of Waste & Recycling Facilities

The MCD Commissioner also visited:

  • Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centre at Jakhira
  • Legacy waste clearance sites at:
    • Naraina Vihar Halt
    • Zakhira Point

These inspections focused on:

  • Segregation and recycling efficiency
  • Speed of legacy waste removal
  • Overall cleanliness standards

🧭 Strict Directions to Officials

Khirwar directed officials to:

  • Ensure regular monitoring of sanitation work
  • Maintain timely clearance of drains and waste
  • Strengthen coordination across departments
  • Prepare proactively for monsoon-related challenges
